Winners announced in NAJ and IJL charity charm competition

International Jewellery London and the National Association of Jewellers are pleased to announce the winners of a charity charm competition in aid of Childline.

Jewellery brands and designers were challenged to develop a charm for a very special charm bracelet, which is now being crafted by Birmingham-based manufacturer Hockley Mint. Entrants also had the option to include a loose pearl or diamond adornment, donated by NAJ members Raw Pearls and Clark Diamonds of Birmingham.

Find out more details about the competition and the cause here.

After a fierce decision-making process the two winners are Dower & Hall and Magnus & Bella.

Wrapped in Love by Dower and Hall
Dower and Hall

This 18ct rose gold charm has been designed to symbolise everything that the NSPCC and Childline represents. The warm hues of the gold roses in the charm, which are an ancient symbol of love, surround the pearl with protection and warmth. The pearl is symbolic of the 30th anniversary of the charity and also the pure innocence of a child.

The Elder Charm by Magnus and Bella

Magnusbella

The Elder charm is a solid gold hand-made, hand-carved and hand-engraved charm made in the bespoke jewellery studio of husband and wife team Magnus & Bella. In ancient English lore the Elder tree symbolises guardianship and protection. The circle of leaves in the charm is never-ending, symbolising constant protection and a safe space.

The complete charm bracelet, which has been designed by British jeweller Sarah Jordan, also features charms by Alexander Davis, Alexis Dove, Clogau, Collette Waudby, Rachel Galley and Sarah Ho.

The bracelet will be the headline item in an online luxury Christmas gift auction to raise vital funds for NSPCC’S ChildLine service.

KickStarter Marina Skia wins 2016 People’s Choice Award

After a competitive public vote, International Jewellery London is excited to announce that Marina Skia has been named the eighth annual People’s Choice Award winner.

Marina will receive a free stand in the IJL Design Gallery in 2017, together with a supply of bespoke own-branded jewellery cleaning cloths from KickStart supporter, Town Talk Polish.

IJL event director, Sam Willoughby, says: “Many congratulations to Marina who mounted a very successful social media campaign. A big thank you also to the industry for their considerable support which has helped promote all of this year’s KickStarters. We are all looking forward to seeing their work at IJL 2016.”

Marina Skia is currently Artist in Residence at Sir John Cass, London Metropolitan University. She cleverly identified people and organisations with large groups of followers, mainly through Facebook, to engage their support of her campaign. This included several fashion bloggers as well as Cass students, staff and friends on Facebook.

On being chosen, Marina said: “I am delighted and honoured to win the People’s Choice Award. The competition provided the perfect opportunity to promote my work to a bigger audience and winning it is a great step forward for my brand. I was so surprised by the enthusiasm and support I received during the campaign and am very grateful to all who helped me win the People’s Choice Award.”

Marina’s pieces combine brass and silver using hand-making skills she learnt during her training as a jeweller in Greece. Since moving to London, she has added a mastery of contemporary technologies to her repertoire, producing jewellery that mimics the movement of water.
