Long-term IJL exhibitor Sunshine Exim is a leading supplier of diamond and fine gemstone jewellery, based in London’s Hatton Garden.
We chat to director Jai Shankar Khandelwal to discover more about its focus on vintage-style diamond jewellery and high-value coloured stone pieces, as well as its plans for 2018 and beyond…
What products are new from Sunshine Exim at IJL 2017?
We will be focusing on vintage-style diamond rings, eternity and semi-set mounts at IJL 2017, as well as showcasing a few high-value diamond necklaces and bracelets, multi-coloured sapphire and diamond necklace and bracelets, and a very special sapphire necklace. We will also have a few vintage dress rings on show, set with sapphire and diamonds and ruby and diamonds.
What does Sunshine Exim offer that other jewellery suppliers can’t?
Sunshine Exim was established more than 25 years ago and we pride ourselves on offering fine diamond and coloured stone jewellery. Our trade-only website has more than 3,000 high-quality products online and available for next-day delivery or same-day collection at the trade counter.
We also offer a bespoke service to our customers. We do not charge for CAD design and provide excellent quality sketches for bespoke jewellery. Turnaround time is between two and six weeks depending upon the complexity of the product. As our company is vertically integrated we can offer low overheads and excellent prices.
How do you ensure you support the retail partners you work with?
We are helping our retail partners to promote their businesses on social media and in print media by providing them with high-quality images, banners and artwork for leaflets. Retailers can access our new bespoke marketing tool via their trade log-in area, where a selection of pre-defined designs featuring Sunshine Exim collections are automatically personalised with the retailer’s logo and contact details. The designs can then be downloaded to use on websites and social media or as high-resolution files to be printed and used in store. Our live stock inventory can also be integrated onto a retailer’s website.
What products are currently proving most popular for you?
Vintage-style rings and earrings are very popular along with high-quality coloured gem-set jewellery. The advantage of this style is that vintage-style dress rings and earrings retail at between £1,500 and £2,500 but they look like £2,500 to £4,000 pieces. Some of the vintage style engagement rings are different to modern designs, offering an option to customers looking for something a bit dainty and different. Plus and they are quite inexpensive, retailing at between £1,000 and £1,500.
Following IJL, what are your plans for 2018 and beyond?
We will support our existing retail partners by providing them with the ability to have our online inventory on their website. We are looking to work with new retail partners who can use our strength to increase their business.
In 2018 we will focus on developing an affordable line of diamond necklaces ranging from 5ct to 20ct. We will also develop new designs using bigger coloured gemstones including turquoise, tourmaline, morganite, aquamarine, amethyst and peridot. These gemstones have a rich colour and are available in larger sizes at relatively low prices.
